NC Miata Audio Install
Hey guys, I am in the middle of doing my audio install on my 2015 Club. I read a lot on here and say thank you to all those who have posted so many great ideas. I had looked at trying to do a behind the seat sub, a footwell sub, and a trunk sub.
I didn't want to give up passenger leg room, I don't have the skill to fabricate a behind the seat sub box for my PRHT, and I don't want to spend $400 or more to get a shop to build a behind the seat sub box. So...I decided to build my own sub box to fit in the little indented space in the bottom of the trunk. I decided to go with a 10" sub so that I could make sure I had enough bass to overcome the material between the cabin and the trunk. I chose the JL Audio 10TW1-4. I needed a 4 ohm sub since my amplifier (classic PPI PC450) could not do a 2 ohm load when bridged (I am running it as a 2x50 + 1x200). I'll post more pics on the box soon once I have things a little closer.
I wanted to share the work I did with the Focal 5x7 components for the doors. I almost went with the 8" component set since they'll fit but the $150 price point (nearly 50% off) of the 5x7 components was too good to pass up especially since they'd bolt right in. I used the factory tweeter mount and the Focal tweeter was a perfect fit. I used my dremel tool to cut out the factor tweeter and then the Focal tweeter had a nice pressed fit into the whole. I put some sealant on the back to hold them in place. I am pretty happy with it.
