Engine Partition

X5 E70 (2007 - current) - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums - www.bimmerfest.com
Took my X 5 35D to an indie in Fort Lauderdale for end of warranty ( 7 years / 100K gold ) and it came out ok apart from the upper engine partition needing to be replaced, they offered to do it all in for 620 USD approx. Took it to BMW for airbag recall and they confirmed it is not covered by warranty, did not get a price but when I mentioned I had quote for 620 USD they said it was better than they could do.

Ok so since I am in the middle of a messy breakup with soon to be x wife I was trying to keep occupied so how difficult could this be, checked ECS, kit was 165 USD inc shipping no tax. Got it and fitted it in about 1 hour, so easy even a caveman could do it. Simple tools ( couple of sockets and 5 inch extention, driver etc )

So what the hell are they charging so much for ????

One word to wise, the kit includes the 3 parts, left, right and center upper. When I removed old one it was fully shagged but what I was not expecting was the brackets at the end that tie the partition to the engine bay ( what the expanding rivet fits into ) where also shagged both sides so had to order those which will come today and I will fit next weekend, they are not expensive so would order all together ( would be about 200 USD total )

Bill
