Dodge Caliber alarm system malfunction - false alerts
I'm Markus from Germany.
My wife has a '08 Dodge Caliber, 2.0 CRD.
Since a few weeks we have false alerts from the alarm system as well as a drained battery after 2-3 days not using the car.
The authorized workshop told me that there is a battery in the alarm horn/siren which is getting weak when getting older.
They also told me that the battery can't be replaced. They offered to change the alarm horn/siren, which will cost approx. 500USD.
As this is a lot of money compared to the residual value of the car, my question would be:
What will happen if I just unplug the horn/siren? Will this be detected as manipulation and engage the immobilizer?
Or can I just do so?
Thanks for any answer, comment, etc.
