bmw325 xi the same as 325I regarding alternator idler pulley and tensioner?
Can someone tell me if the 2003 325XI all wheel drive is considered a standard E46?
I am replacing the alternator, idler pulley, tensioner, and water pump. The diagram looks the same but the new idler pulley does not look like the old one.
Car has 118k on it. I changed the alternator. bearing was making noise. new belt.
Drove about an hour or so. all good. Next day my wife says it had an issue. I found the top hose had come loose and some antifreeze came out. (old clip). Filled coolant and replaced clip. drove 20 minutes then lost power steering, battery light came on, and temp shot up.
pulled over.. waited.. filled more coolant.
drove 25 minutes.. no problem.. same thing happened. this time belt had torn off.
bought new idler pulley, new tensioner, alternator in case the old one is bad and going to get a new waterpump to make sure that was not the problem (did not see anything leaking on waterpump but since it is apart....
My problem is the new tensioner does not look the same as the old one.. Autozone says that is right part. Are the 325I and 325XI different parts? Cannot seem to find anything on 325XI only basic E46 DIY which say 325I.. Am I missing something?
Replacing all 4 parts should fix this hopefully.
I have the fan and (new) alternator out.. at the moment.
any help is really appreciated.
