BMW - Help please! gas tank (18mm ID? vent i believe) hose needed!

E39 (1997 - 2003) - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums - www.bimmerfest.com
I absolutely cannot ID the hose I need on the realOEM parts diagrams. Appreciate any help anyone can offer...

The quick version - original tank was leaking at the ultrasonic weld of fill pipe to tank body. I replaced the tank, but the hose that mates the blue nipple immediately in front of the inspection port / fuel level balancing mechanism to the tubing coming out of the bodywork would not come off the old tank's blue nipple. It was eventually destroyed by the 200lb gorilla (me). I tried some SAE marine wire-wound wet exhaust hose, but it would not seal well enough (triggering CEL). Emissions has come due and I NEED to get this resolved.

Problem: hose seems like it should be 18mm ID (per the OD of the blue nipple / body hose). I CANNOT find a source of 18mm ID fuel-rated hose. I need less than 1' of the damn stuff. I'd even pay whatever the extortion rate is for the official part..but I can't figure out what the part is. No diagram I've looked at seems to call out the blue nipple - I believe it is a vent for evaporative emissions, but not certain.

One picture attached - taken from the rear of the car (looking towards front). Happy to take/post any other pics that might be helpful. Thanks!
