Potential new Miata owner: Looking for advice/opinions

NC (2006+) - MX-5 Miata Forum - forum.miata.net
I'm under the gun to buy a new or used car for the family. I drive a Prius C and my wife has a Sienna. We have three children the oldest of which starts college this week. I have put off buying a third car. I have always admired the Miata from afar. My father had a first generation and always enjoyed it. All my coworkers call it a "chick" car, but I don't really care and think it would be a blast to drive. I've been quite happy with my Prius C and I love the gas mileage, but so does my son and this car would be relatively inexpensive to operate as well I think. I found a 2007 with 91,000 miles on it today locally for $7000 and it looks like it is brand new. So a few questions with any opinions/advice/whatever you feel like saying for the group it that is ok....

1-Decent for a daily commuter car? I drive about 35-40 minutes each way, half of it interstate and half back roads. I live in Georgia so it can get hot and cold but not as cold as up north usually.

2-Do you have a canned response for when someone calls it a "chick" car?

3-Is the 2007 a decent model year? (I just started reading up on Miatas in general). Anything to be wary of or look for?

4-It is a soft top. Again, it looks very nice, but anything in particular to check?

5-Any general thoughts on this potential purchase?

6-Are there any questions I forgot to even ask??

Thanks in advance and I hope to perhaps join the MX-5 "club" soon.

Sincerely,

Marcus
