Nissan - Nissan Maxima rental review

Car Talk - MX-5 Miata Forum - forum.miata.net
There was only one car left when I went for a full size to commute this week, and I can say I didn't mind getting the Max, as I have never driven one.

Nice ride, comfortable seats (but steering wheel too far away when sitting a bit reclined), and I can live with that. Ergonomics...meh. Things such as the cruise off/on button is very close to and right below the set/resume paddle and it gets bumped in the night. When cruise turns off, you lose your set speed. A simple tap up does not resume, you have to hold the damned thing for a bit. Frustrating.

Good all around visibility, though. Seems like good mileage and FANTASTIC gear ratio selection. Very thrashey engine when pushed.

What would make it a total deal breaker, though, is the steering. Handling is decent, but the breakaway forces on what I assume is electric assist are ridiculous, and the car ends up going down the road in lane excursion jerks. When you finally overcome the force to turn on boost, it really slams with a passion. Totally takes away what good things the car brings to the table. Have heard similar complaints about other electric assist boxes, and have felt a bit on some, but this one is over the top...er, out the bottom.
