15x7 vs 15x8 for Stock Power
I have highly researched this and there is tons of info. Nothing seems to directly address my question. I am trying to determine if the 15x7 or 15x8 wheels will be my best option. I know 15x7 will offer a smoother ride; 15x8 sharper turning and overall faster on a track...
97' Miata, Koni Sports w/ FM springs, RB tubular swaybar, RB full exhaust, Type II Torsen
The results of my build are to have a car that is toss-able, rotates, playful and maintains the characteristics of the stock NA Miata that everyone loves. The car is not particular to an autocross class or competition. Just a car that is remarkably fun to drive on the road and maybe a few autocross/HPDE per year.
My question is if going to a 15x8 wheel with 200AA tires, will make the car too grippy for stock power, making it lose those playful characteristics? Or will it enhance the experience? How will the car handle at the limit between a 7" wide vs 8" wide wheel?
So options for me are:
1.) Stock 14x6 wheels and put on (195/50/14 Falken tires, only 200AA performance tire available)
2.)15x7 6UL (195/50/15) once they arrive this spring.
3.)15x8 6UL (205/50/15).
4.) I am completely over-analyzing this decision and just get 15x8...
Either way, the car will have 200AA tires.
Nothing can replace experiencing these options, which I am unable to do.
Any help or feedback from experience is much appreciated!!!
