Why is a Vette GS so much heavier than a Carrera GTS?

C7 General Discussion - forums.corvetteforum.com
A GS MT weights 3,428 Lb., curb weight. A Carrera GTS MT weighs 3,197 Lb. Both are about the same size, and have larger wheels, wider bodies, bigger brakes, and a decent degree of luxury. Considering the GS is plastic/CF/aluminum and the GTS is steel monocoque, I don't understand how the GS can weigh so much more. I know the GS has an eight and the GTS has a six, but it shouldn't make a large difference. As a data point, I built an all-aluminum Ford FE a few years ago (427 stroked to 487), and the block with caps weighs 95 lb. The heads are super light too. I can't really see the engine accounting for more than 50 Lb. difference, since the GS engine is aluminum.
