OEM Jake Hood Stinger Installed Z06 *Pic/Vid Heavy*

C7 General Discussion - forums.corvetteforum.com
Ever since Carlisle a few weeks ago where I fell into the mod mode and spent an unplanned couple of grand on full stage III aero which was installed by Joe from ACS (who is a great guy and did a great job!) I've been waiting for my OEM Jake Hood Stinger.

I tried to find one at Carlisle was unable to do so. Xpel hooked me up with coverage for the new aero (stage II and III accessories also covered) and also did my door sills. but NO JAKE STINGER!

I got back and ordered the OEM decal through my buddy's shop (Tune Time Performance) who uses a large GM Dealer for all of his GM parts.

The decal felt like it took FOREVER to get here. I would check daily for the update, he gets two daily deliveries to the shop (does a hefty $60k month through them so he gets attention when he inquires lol) and every day it was supposed to arrive NOPE... was torture

Finally... it came in yesterday! I ran up to the shop after work and snatched it up. I brought it home opened it up and much to my Dismay.... i saw numerous flaws in the decal..

So i took pics, emailed Mike Furman and asked him for advice (he was instrumental in me ordering the OEM Stinger, thanks again Mike, you were right!) and also spoke to Jagamajargarananana Jeremy! i then started a thread in the Z06 section looking for opinions...

in the thread in the Z06 section, a couple members pointed out that the defects were most likely on top of the application film and not on the decal itself..

so I took a shot and contacted Donny from Advanced Solar in Toms River, NJ to see if he could install the decal as i figured since I have tinted 100s of windows but none recently (few close to perfect lol) I could probably install the decal?? but I didn't feel to confident taking on the almost $200 decal and screwing something up.. that would suck..

Donny is a perfectionist.. a corvette owner's dream installer of PPF, decals, even ground effects, etc etc, his tinting skills are second to none... i am serious, he's amazing.

Says bring it on by i'll squeeze you in NP. Has a large climate controlled warehouse/garage, his showroom is still being assembled as he moved from a smaller location and his new spot is awesome, only 5 minutes from both the Garden State Parkway and Route 70....

I get there, drop the car, i'm leaving it with him (would never hesitate, check out his instagram and FB).. we talk, i show him the stinger, says he's done 3 others np and has worked on dozens of C7's from Aero install, tint, ppf etc. knows to tuck it in the vent opening, and wrap around back of hood.... don't worry he says..

then he points out the existing previously done by another shop's tint job.. he's standing there with my buddy who's picking me up, and saying he can't believe i let this go.

so.... we talk and he says let me redo it for you and I KNOW i should, but i was pissed about having it redone because the first guy who had my Xpel installed packaged the deal and it was already paid for but the tint job was terrible.. little dust dots all over the top back of the rear window wasn't clean it was a mess.. the edges were uneven on the doors.. it was sub par and not befitting this car, my "supercar"... and i didn't bring it back because why bother, it wasn't going to get done better.. plus the film was "cloudy"...

So to pull all the old tint off, install the new tint with shaved corners, no edges whatsoever...amazing...and install the Jake stinger $400.. i couldn't argue knowing his level of craftsmanship... and truth be told, he's on par, actually a little bit cheaper than others in this area would charge for even the remove and install new tint. which is crazy given his talent.

He also does Suntek primarily (i'm high on Xpel) also installs Xpel but prefers the optical clarity of the Suntek film he says.. i'll have to see what goes on in the spring.. i will add more PPF but Suntek or xpel?

I get the call around 330pm and he says he'll have it done by 545pm or so. I asked him if he wanted the car overnight it wasn't an issue, he said ----IT IS GOING TO RAIN TOMORROW AND YOUR CAR IS SPOTLESS GET IT HOME--- lol.. look, i'll drive in the rain when i HAVE to.. point is who cares about something like that other than a perfectionis,t ****, ACD-maniac? ...he's awesome!

so, without further ado.. here's the final product..

don't worry about the "disabled spot" this is an empty lot, he has the unit on the end there was my car that El Camino and one other car in about 30 available spots. he parked it like that (that's his unit's disabled spot also) at 530pm everyone else has already closed for the day. it was inside up to that point.

that's the man...highly recommend him for anything he says he can do.. believe it...it will be perfection.. shame on me for not going back to him he's done all of my other cars and so many friend's as well.. I was under the impression he only used 3M ppf through a buddy this is my first car with ppf, i never asked him in the past.. he does not.. he doesn't even like 3M.. lol

the window is 20% and not a pin bubble, screw-up, or imperfection anywhere.. the top is vinyl keeps the dot matrix covered perfectly..

35% on sides

this finishes this car (for me).... i love it. can't get enough of it...
